Bathroom Organization Project Complete
So I don’t think I ever updated you on the amazingness that happened in my bathroom… Surprisingly for a rental, my place has storage and closets a-plenty. In the past I’ve only had limited drawer space and under sink cabinets. So let me tell you about my bathroom.
It has lots of undersink storage space in the cabinets, a closet in the bathroom and a linen closet right out side. It’s a pretty fantastic setup if I do say so myself. Since I moved in a year ago the bathroom closet has gotten – well- junky. I keep forgetting I have things under the sink. It takes time to find medicine and any extra toiletries… just not the best place to get ready for your day.
So in May, I said to myself enough is enough! I’m organizing this space so it works and is functional. So I pulled everything out of the closets and cabinets and plastic storage boxes and went through it all. There was a lot of purging involved. Anything that was old or I had not used in the last year got tossed. Then I separated the items that were left into categories. Finally I could visualize all my getting-pretty supplies (and, ahem, get-not-sick supplies too).
After taking some shelf measurements, I headed off to Target to see what I could find. Luckily they had these colorful bins that matched my shower curtain and kind of hid the contents from the side.
Here’s a quick progress shot. At one point, I was debating going the color block route with the plastic storage containers, but opted against it – too trendy.
Voila! With the magic of the blogosphere, here is the finished product!
And a close up. Don’t you love the woven look on the bins?
Now there is a place for everything and everything has it’s place. The stuff I use daily or a few times a week on the lower shelf in smaller baskets so I easily see what I needed and get to it. (I’m one of those folks who falls into the if-I-don’t-see-it-I-forget-about-it group.) Then items that I use occasionally, like my travel bag, extra travel-sized toiletries and my hot curlers, went on shelves a little higher and out of the way.
I ended up having enough storage containers left over to organize the linen closet a bit.
Ahhhh. You feel that? It’s peace of mind knowing where what you need is located. Until life get’s too hectic and we meet again…
PS. Sorry for all the cell phone pictures!
