A Newbie Review of SXSW Interactive 2011

….mostly in pictures. Aww. Come on. It was my vacation, and I was a tourist. I can’t help it – I get snap happy.

As we approach Panel Picker time again, I think it’s time I finally post about my first time attending SXSW Interactive. Hell, it was my first time in Texas. Crazy exhausting crazy fun and impossible to do everything, so don’t even try. I heard attendance double since last year, and also that it was the most slutilicious (Is that a word?) SXSW ever. In my opinion, Austin is a lot like Raleigh, just more metropolitan. My math skills are a little rusty, but I think this is the correct equation: Raleigh + Charlotte + hotter = Austin.

Highlights from SXSW 2011

- Complimentary Big Boi Concert (courtesy of Foursquare) at an awesome venue called Seaholm Power Plant, Brand Mascots panel, seeing Trampled by Turtles, abundance of food trucks and rooftop decks, secret wine parties, and exploring some of Austin’s finest things to do.

Lowlights from SXSW 2011

- Super-uber-duper crowded, lines everywhere (for all the parties) and Daylight Savings Time (boo…I lost an hour).

On with the photographic proof that you were at SXSW Interactive 2011

They say a photo is worth a thousand words so I’m going through my trip in imagery.

I’d love to go back an explore Austin when it’s not flooded by SXSW peeps. Also I’d like to check out SXSW Music Festival. I may even just start a cowboy boot fund.

End with a nice little anecdote to make you feel warm and fuzzy

On the very last night, I met this old dude who had come to SXSW Music with his childhood buddy because it was on his bucket list. Yeah, how cool is that? If you want to be that guy, raise your hand and jump around.

Anyway, no more words, just a visual essay (a.k.a. pictures) from SXSW Interactive 2011. View it from my blurry camera, and like it.
