To Inspire: Funky Retro Finds on Craigslist

In preparation for moving I’ve been scouring Craigslist furniture pieces lately – well a lot lately. Everything was business as usual, until I came across this post “Vintage/Retro Lane Cedar Chest – $450 (Five Points, Raleigh)” I had to click. I was desperate to know the loveliness that was on the next page. And what I got was this beauty and someone with a like-minded sensibility about the versatility of furniture.

Described as:

“Circa 1955, this Mid-Century Lane Cedar Chest with legs opens to expose a cedar trunk on top with a drawer on the bottom. The piece is 43 inches wide, 31.5 inches tall and 18.5 inches deep. Under the Chartreuse paint is wood veneer that had extensive cosmetic damage but the piece is in great structural shape and has the original brass hardware. This is very versatile and would make a great dresser, side table or buffet.”

You should snap this up. It was just posted this morning. Yes, it is a pretty penny. But it’s quality furniture, could be used for a variety of purposes, and it’s great storage if you have a small space.

I just found this exact same piece (unpainted) on Craigslist for $100. I talked the owner down to $60 and took it home! Mine is in great structural shape but needs to be completely refinished. I think I’ll even redo the felt lining in the bottom drawer.

That’s awesome! You found a great deal. Have fun refinishing it! I’d love to see pictures.
