Mo’ Goodness – I’m a Mo’ Sista

UPDATE: I was named Miss Movember for Team RDU and got to be photographed with a very dedicated and generous Mr. Movember (a.k.a. Gregory Ng). Huge THANK YOU to all the committee organizers, mo’ growers and mo’ supporters who really helped make a difference.

I’m a Mo’ Sista. That’s right. Yep, you read that correctly. ‘Mo Sista. It’s short for Movember-Supporting Wo-man.

As member of the Mo’ Sistahood, I’m supporting Movember as a member of the fierce-facial-hair-growing troupe Team RDU. Bet you didn’t know that you could still sport a mustache for a great cause even if you can’t grow facial hair!

It has really become my latest go-to fashion accessory. I’ve grown rather fond of it – enough to even call it my “Insta-‘Stache.” Every day I upload a new picture of my Insta-‘Stache across on my MoSpace, Twitter and Facebook. I’ve included a couple of my favorites in this post, but you can even see the entire gallery of my daily Movember pics on my MoSpace.

I didn’t sign up as a ‘Mo Sista just to wear a silly mustache around (although some may call that a perk). I am participating in Movember to change the face of men’s health and make a real difference.

So you ask, what is this Movember thing? Well, it is the world’s largest charity event raising funds for cancer affecting men – specifically prostate cancer. Each November, men across the globe grow mustaches (or ‘Mos) while raising funds and awareness for men’s health. Movember aims to forever change the face of men’s health, by raising awareness and funds that will reduce the number of preventable male deaths by cancer. You can learn more about Movember on the organization’s website.

So why am I a Mo’ Sista? The concept is a really cool and totally original way to get people take notice of a great cause. Which means I’m totally there and willing to show off my Insta-‘Stache.

But why am I really all about supporting Movember? You probably can’t recall ever seeing the face of prostate cancer but the odds are you know some one that had it. Several people in my family have been afflicted by prostate cancer, and many other relatives have had cancer of some-sort. It means a lot…to me, to you, to a ton of peeps out there – and most of all to the future.

There’s just a few days left in Movember. Please help me raise awareness and consider donating: http://us.movember.com/mospace/517514/.

Together we can change the face of men’s health. It’s imperative to find a cure for cancer.

We can get this cancer thing. Thank you.

Just,
G
